"Project in a Box": Building Your Own Compost
WHAT IS COMPOST?
Compost is the decomposition of plant remains and other once-living materials to make an earthy, dark, crumbly substance that can be used to add to houseplants or garden soil as an excellent source of nutrients.
WHY COMPOST?
Compost can improve soil structure, texture, and aeration and increase the soil’s water-holding capacity. It loosens clay soils and helps sand soils retain water. Compost improves soil fertility and stimulates healthy root development in plants.
Composting can also be a great solution for overflowing landfills. By using your daily household garbage for composting instead of sending it to the landfill you can improve your lawn and garden while saving valuable space in the landfill.
